Message I'm a little irritated because my system should hit harder than my friends, but it fails to do so. I'm not looking to be obnoxious when I'm driving around (those who know me, know I don't do that), but I'd like to at least have the ability to do so =P.

I'm running an American Legacy 600 watt Amp (it was free, btw) into 2 bridged Kenwood 12" Subwoofers (1200 watt power handling capability). They're in boxes similar to those made by ChrisZNA, but made of 4 ply wood and carpeted. These boxes are not yet sealed due to my laziness (the backs are entirely open). The wires are all approximately 14 gauge, including power wires.

My friend is running an Alpine 700 watt Amp with a single Rockford Fosgate 8" Sub in a sealed enclosure. Power wires are 8 gauge, speaker wires are about 16 gauge. His car (a Chevy S10 regular cab if it matters) hits INCREDIBLY harder than my car.

We hooked his sub into my car and it still didn't hit as hard as his, so I know it has to do with the setup (I also figure the fact that his sub is directly behind his seats makes a large difference too... lol). I'm almost at a point where I'm going to make an entire sealed enclusure that occupies the entire hatch (with cargo space underneath for the t-tops), because I'm confident the boxes are partially contributing to the downfall of the sound.

I'm going to start with the obvious, seal the boxes, run some larger wires, and mess with the EQ a little (btw, my friend didn't touch his EQ at all, and my head unit is much nicer, and should therefore provide much cleaner sound). Could the cheap American Legacy Amp be destroying my sound? Are there any other measures I can take to make the setup sound better?

Also, if anyone has links to a website that covers all aspects of car audio (box designs, materials, wiring, etc), I'd really appreciate it.

Since it's been snowing a lot here, I feel that if I can't drive the car, I may as well do something with it. Got the new head unit for x-mas, so I figured I'd do some work with that. TIA!
